There are many times during an association’s lifetime where a circumstance requires special attention, likely from a team of members to address and solve, without disruption of the current support structure in place for the Community. One of the best ways to address this is through an Ad Hoc Committee.

The term Ad Hoc is Latin and means “for this situation”. So an Ad Hoc Committee is defined and created for a specific situation which will have a limited scope of responsibility and will dissolve upon its completion.

Some examples of where an Ad Hoc Committee may be useful for the Board of Directors, include:
• Infrastructure Replacement Planning. i.e. roofs, siding, etc
• Revisions to the Community’s governing documents
• Major Community Landscaping Planning

Many times, as illustrated with the above examples, the Board may utilize an Ad Hoc Committee for exploratory purposes, to establish a new standard for the future and to address a one-time matter that will not require on-going governance.
